Huntington Bank Robbery Victim Loses Twins

A pregnant bank teller that was shot on Tuesday during a robbery has lost the twins she was carrying. The gunman aimed at her abdomen when he fired his gun.

The babies were not hit by the bullet that entered Katherin Shuffield during the Tuesday morning robbery at Huntington Bank in Inianapolis. Mrs. Shuffield remains in critical but stable condition at Methodist Hospital. Sadly the fight to save her babies came to an end on Thursday night.

The police had arrested three men in connection to the robbery but it appears that the connection was based on false information. 25-year-old Shed James Jr. lied to the police. He will be charged with false reporting.

The new bank robber and any aides he had in the crime remain at large. Prosecutors will have to decide they can charge the shooter will feticide. Because Shuffield was just five months pregnant the charge of manslaughter can not be leveled. The state law requires that infants killed in the womb must be at least seven months along.

Additional reports about the robbery are here and here.
