“I’m feeling good … better and better each day,” Haggard was quoted as saying in a statement. “If not for the love and wisdom of my wife (Theresa), I might not be around today.”
Doctors removed the upper lobe of Haggard’s lung after a biopsy showed that the singer had a non-small cell lung cancer. According to tests all of the affected tissue has been removed. This type of cancer is less aggressive than other lung cancers. It generally spreads to other body parts more slowly than small cell lung cancer.
Haggard began recording in 1965.
