Prisoner Released From Montreal Jail Because He’s Too Fat

Michel Lapointe of Montreal has been released from prison. No the drug gang member didn’t finish his five year term. The man was let go because he’s too fat for his cell.

That’s right, too fat for a cell. The 450 pounder could not fit on the chair in the Montreal cell that had been his home so the authorities released him. They had tried though to find him a new home behind bars first. Lapointe, also known as Big Mike, was referred to two other facilities.

Big Mike, 37, was freed late Tuesday. He had been arrested in September 2006. He was sentenced to his five year term in May of this year. He now hopes for a normal life and a proper bed to lay his large frame.

Reuters reports:

A letter from the authorities to Lapointe said: “You have been detained for more than 25 months and your prison conditions are difficult because of your health”.
