Deer Hunter Accidently Kills Toddler Sitting in Grandparents’ Home

A toddler is dead from a bullet intended for a deer. Edward Taibi of New York allegedly shot 16-month-old Charly Skala in the torso.

Taibi was hunting Sunday afternoon in Swan Lake, New York. He had permission to be hunting from a neighbour on the property. He was within 500 feet of an occupied residence. That is within the law.

The bullet, intended for a deer, went into the side of little Charly’s grandparents home. The toddler was airlifted to hospital but died when doctors could not repair the damage.

Taibi has been charged with second-degree manslaughter. He is fully cooperating in the investigation as he grieves for the little girl’s death.

Taibi has a 17-year-old daughter and lost one of his own children two years ago to cancer.
