The Shears mention was a salute to the imaginary singer from the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Bandalbum. With the intro in place Ringo Starr drummed his way into a version of With a Little Help From My Friends sharing the mic with McCartney. The pair embraced after the song that had the crowd drowning them out.
Starr then performed It Don’t Come Easy, Yellow Submarine and Boys.
It was the first time the two had shared a stage since 2002 when they played a tribute concert to honour the late George Harrison. The duo had not confirmed that they would perform last night together even though they were both due on the stage.
The concert at the Radio City Music Hall was filled with notables starring for David Lynch Foundation’s “Change Begins Within” benefit concert. The concert raised awareness and funds for Lynch’s charity that works to promote the late Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s Transcendental Meditation technique.
Also among those on tap to sing to the crowd were Moby, Donavan, Sheryl Crow, Ben Harper and Mike Love.
Jerry Seinfeld was on hand to discuss relaxation and how relaxed the American public now are as Newsday reports:
Seinfeld kept going with the relaxation theme – right into the rest room – and the automatic urinals and no-handle sinks, though he rightly observed that the sinks aren’t quite as good at detections. “Hey toilet, aren’t you two working together?” he said. “Tell him, it’s me.”
