Dave Arneson, Co-Creator of Dungeons and Dragons Dead at 61

Dave Arneson, 61, died Tuesday morning from cancer. His partner in D & D, Gary Gygax died last year. Arneson was diagnosed with cancer shortly after suffering a stroke in 2002.
The pair created Dungeons and Dragons in 1974. The game allowed players to assume roles in a magical world of elves and wizards.

The first hand-assembled print run of 1,000 games sold out quickly. By the year 1982 sales were topping the $20 million range.

At one point Arneson sued Gygax saying that he was not being given the credit or royalties that he deserved for helping to create the game. All of the lawsuits were settled.
